“figment” – city of dreams pavilion
“The problem isn’t how to make the world more technological. It’s about how to make the world more humane.” ~John Maeda
The “Unfolded Global Village” pavilion is a series of triangular tessellations that are joined together at the seams, while rotating 45 and 90 degrees in place, to create an unfolded net of polyhedron map based on Buckmisnter Fuller’s Dymaxion map of the world. The Dymaxion map is a projection of a world map onto the surface of a polyhedron, which depicts the Earth’s continents as “one island”, or nearly contiguous land masses.
Taking inspiration from this projection of our world, the pavilion presents a place for the visitors to rest, to share, to be inrpied, and to study our global village in all its beauty. As such, it aims to heighten our sense of humanity while offering a different, slightly distorted, view of our world.
